Conformations of DNA Flashcards
1
Q
B-DNA
A
The “pure” conformation, the number of base pairs can fluctuate in the range of 10.2 - 10.6
2
Q
A-DNA
A
Forms when DNA is dehydrated. A-DNA is more tightly wound than B-DNA and the major and minor grooves of A-DNA are similar in width. There are about 11 base pairs per turn, and the base pairs are tilted about 20 degrees relative to the the long axis of the helix
3
Q
Z-DNA
A
Can form when certain sequences are present. There are no grooves in Z-DNA and the helix is left handed, not right handed. The Z-DNA occurs in G/C rich regions.
