Recycling and Global warming Flashcards
What is recycling
The process of collecting and processing materials that would otherwise be thrown away as trash and turning them into new products.
What are the main steps of recycling
1) collecting the recyclables, 2) processing the recyclables and turning them into recycled-content products 3) purchasing recycled products
Advantages of recycling
Reduces amount of waste sent to landfills and incinerators,
Conserves natural resources,
Prevents pollution,
Saves energy
Disadvantages to recycling
Soil contamination,
Air contamination,
Recycling tons of garbage will require separate factories,
Recycling does not guarantee good quality products,
What materials can you recycle
Plastic, Paper, Metals, Glass, Food,
What is global warming
Global warming is the gradual increase in the average surface temperature of the Earth
What is climate change
Climate change is a long term change in weather patterns
What is the difference between climate change and global warming
Global warming refers to the rise in global temperatures in the atmosphere, climate change refers to the increasing changes in the seasides of climate over a long period of time.
What is the carbon cycle
The carbon cycle shows carbon sinks and summarises how carbon and it’s compounds enter and leave the atmosphere and these sinks.
