What is gas exchange?
When you breathe you take in oxygen and give out carbon dioxide.
(You breathe in more oxygen then you breathe out, and you breathe in less carbon dioxide than you breathe out)
What is the respiratory process?
Air enters your body through your mouth and nose. Air moves down the tranchea (windpipe) Air moves down a bronchus Air moves down the bronchiole Air moves into an alveolus Oxygen then diffuses into the blood.
Which gas present in air is not used by the body?
Nitrogen gas
State what happens to your rib cage when you inhale
The muscles between your ribs contract, which pulls your rib cage out.
What happens to your diaphragm when you inhale?
It contracts
What happens to the pressure when you inhale?
The volume inside your chest increases, the pressure inside your chest decreases- this draws air into your lungs.
What is a drug
Drugs are chemical substances that affect the way your body works.
What are the 2 types of drugs?
Medical drugs and recreational drugs
What are medical drugs
Medical drugs are used in medicine, they benefit your health in some way.
What is an example of a medical drug?
Paracetamol, antibiotics, morphine
What are recreational drugs?
Recreational drugs are drugs people take for enjoyment, most of them are harmful to the body.
Examples of Illegal recreational drugs
Heroin, cocaine, cannabis and ecstasy
Examples of legal recreational drugs
Alcohol and tobacco
What is a drug addiction?
If your body gets used to the changes of your body caused by the drug it may become dependent on the drug. This means you would need to keep taking the drug to feel normal.
