Forces Flashcards
What is a contact force?
A force that acts when an object is in contact with a surface, air or water. Example: air resistance, friction, water resistance etc…
Is friction greater on a rougher or smother surface?
Rougher.
Define streamlined
A contour designed to minimise resistance to motion through a fluid.
What is hooke’s law?
If the extension doubles when you double the force, that object obeys Hooke’s Law. Not all object obey Hooke’s Law.
Does atmospheric decrease or increase with height?
Decrease.
What is a drag force?
The force that slows down object if they are moving through a fluid.
What is an elastic limit?
When a spring doesn’t go back to its original length after you have removed force.
What is the law of moments?
When an object is an equilibrium the sum of the clockwise moment equal to the sum of the anti-clockwise moment.
How to calculate moment?
Clockwise Moment (Nm) = force (N) x perpendicular distance from the pivot (m)
How to calculate pressure?
Pressure (N/m2) = force (N)/ area (m2)
