Q

Rectangular Course Steps

A
  1. Find something rectangle of adequate size to allow at least 30 seconds of straight and level flight on the Downwind Leg. Rectangle should be oriented so that the longest side is closely aligned with the wind direction. (If there is nothing rectangular, a long straight section of road between two intersections is a good alternative.)
  2. Choose a left or right pattern
  3. Maintain entry altitude on a 45 degree angle to the Downwind Leg
  4. Enter at pattern speed 80-90 KTS (about 1900 RPMs)
  5. Maintain .3 to .5 miles from your chosen rectangle or road crabbing for any wind drift
  6. When you get to 45 degrees from the corner of your rectangle or intersection turn onto your crosswind and set up a crab to correct for any drift
  7. Again, when you get to 45 degrees from the corner of your rectangle or intersection turn onto your crosswind and set up a crabbing to correct for any drift
  8. Then again, when you get to 45 degrees from the corner of your rectangle or intersection turn onto your crosswind and set a crabbing to correct for any drift
  9. Lastly, when you get to 45 degrees from the corner of your rectangle or intersection turn onto your downwind and set a crab to correct for any drift
  10. Exit on the downwind
