The government would advertise that women wanted you to go to war to fight for them and the children.
There where woman outside military registration offices that would hand you a white feather as a sign of dishonour if you didn’t sign up putting lots of social pressure on men

Meny men believed that becoming a soldier would make women swoon for them when they returned that they would be hers to their eyes and that they could easily find a girl

The government advertised the army as an exciting adventure to live and not the destruction and bloodshed war actually is. They advertised as seeing the world and coming back home with Wonderfull stories

To people with less money life in the military was better than their current lives, they got three square meals a day and that was more than some of them could afford
Misinformation
The government said it would be simple they said they would march over there destroy the germans and be back home for Christmas when in reality it was a long and brutal war
Patriotism
The British were very proud of their country, they believed in fighting for their country and its honor

The British government made people think of the germans as monsters, a plague that had to be erratecated

in January 1916 a conscription was introduced, all men between 18 and 41 had to join the army at the end of that year it was extended to all married men
