What is a CV?
A CV (curriculum vitae) lists the skills, qualifications and employment history of a candidate which is made by the candidate in order to sell “themselves”.
What is short listing?
A shortlist is a list of candidates that you think, would be a good fit for the job judging by their CV, you might ask the shortlisted candidates in for an interview.
Pros and Cons of internal recruitment
The pros of internal recruitment are, you already know what attitudes and work ethic the candidates have, internal recruitment can also motivate other existing employees knowing there is room for progression within the company, in addition existing employees already know the inner workings and processes of the company which could lead to them fitting into the new role quicker, it also takes less time to recruit internally. A con of internal recruitment is you might be missing out on the best candidate because you are only recruiting from inside the company.
Pros and Cons of external recruitment
The pros of external recruitment are, new employees can bring new ideas to the company and you will also have a wider range of candidates. The cons of external recruitment are, you might demotivate staff if they think they would have been a good candidate for the job and you’ve just overlooked them. It might also take a while to get used the way the company operates, it is also a longer process to recruit employees externally.
Name some Selection Methods
Some selection methods include an interview, testing, simulations and assessment centres.
What are the three kinds of job interviews?
One to one interviews, panel interviews (where there is more than one interviewer interviewing one person), or a group interveiw ( where you and other candidates work in a group to solve a problem for example and the interviewer watches, this lets your employer see how well you work in a team.)
What are some methods of testing?
Some methods of testing include aptitude that tests your natural abilities, attainment that tests your skills, intelligence, fitness, doing a medical to make sure you don’t have any underlying health issues or drug testing.
What is a simulation or assessment centre in the context of the selection process.
A simulation includes putting a candidate in a situation where you can test there abilities and skills, this is often done by pilots or people that are going to be operating heavy machinery. This can also be done to test there perseverance and problem solving skills.
An assessment centre is a place where a candidate can go, that is usually operated by and external company, here they are assessed and tested over a number of days to evaluate their skills and personality, a report is then send to the employer which helps them to make a decision on which candidate to hire.
