What constitutes a key decision?
A decision or course of action which either amends or changes current operational procedure, or which has an actual or potential significant impact on another organisation, person or location.
If a key decision relates to an action that does not subject personnel to any additional risk a simple written log will suffice. What information must be included?

CU decision log - ‘gathering and thinking’ tools in CSS

Whenever a KDL is completed, what other two things must also be done?
Risk Assessment of the activity and Risk Ranking Matrix completed.
What are the three types of risk assessment?
Generic
Strategic
Incident
Describe generic risk assessment
Nationally produced. Provide statements of risk and possible control measures relevant to the Fire Service as a whole.
Describe strategic risk assessment
Locally produced by individual Fire and Rescue Services, detailed operational procedures and PDAs for specific incident types, also inform decisions on appropriate training, PPE and operational equipment.
What is the ‘Firefighter Safety Maxim’?
The greater the potential benefit, the greater the acceptable level of risk. High risk activities are limited to those that have the potential to save life or prevent rapid and significant escalation of the incident.
