Collapsed Structures Flashcards
Buildings of the same type of construction may collapse in much the same way. Why is this important to understand in terms of saving life?
Common conditions are likely to be present creating safe places in which trapped persons may survive.
What bears the load in a framed building?

What constitutes the load in a building?

What are the favourable features of framed buildings over un framed buildings in terms of structural collapse? (2)
- Greater resistance to collapse.
2. Failures that occur are more localised.
What bears the load in unframed buildings?
The walls.
What is the typical outcome when load bearing walls fail?
