our understanding of how the world works
what story did he read and what people does it come from
Native American story called The War of the Ghosts
what did the participants do after hearing the story
made many mistakes during recall because they changed unfamiliar information to make it fit their own culture
what did barlett say the reasons were for our confabulation
we tend to ignore information that is incompatible with our existing schema
we remember the gist of events, not details
we used schema based knowledge to interpret current situations to fill gaps in our memory
we use schemas to help guess what happened when we cant remember
