What were the causes of the Civil War?

What were the effects of the Civil War?
- President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. When the war began Lincoln did not want to end slavery he wanted to preserve the union.
- Northern economy booms.
- The South loses the cotton trade with Britain.
- Total war destroys the South’s economy.

Rebuilding of the south after the Civil War.

A southern state could form a new government after 10% of its voters swore an oath of loyalty to the United States.

It required a majority of white men in each southern state to swear loyalty to the Union.

Wade-Davis Bill punished anyone who was in southern government and served in the military, 10% plan punished former Southern leaders

Anyone who held political office, men who served in the military below the rank of Colonel
