Reciproc Flashcards
What are the three types of reciproc files? What are they used for?
R25 - narrower canals
R40 and R50 - wider canals
Use R50 if 30K file passively reaches working length, if not, use R40
What is the reciproc motion?
150 degrees counter clockwise
30 degrees clockwise
How should one carry out reciproc endo?
Estimate 2/3 of WL from pre op radiograph
Straight line access
Fill canal with irrigant
Peck, peck, peck
Clean instrument
Irrigate
Recapitulate
Apex locator when at 2/3 of WL as coronal flare can adjust WL
Use hand instruments to finish apical prep if file only goes to WL pre curved. If ISO10 wont get to WL create glide path with ISO15
If 15 goes so WL with no pre curve then finish prep with R25
Benefits and cons of true reciprocation movement?
Pros:
Mimics manual movement
Reduces risk of continuous rotation of a file - cyclic fatigue
Cons:
Decreased cutting efficacy
Limited capacity to auger debris out of Canal
What is cyclical fatigue?
Free rotation of an instrument when it is curved, leading to areas of compression and tension in the object
Leads to failure
Benefits of reciproc blue?
more flexible
higher cyclical fatigue resistance as it is heat treated NiTi
Better for curved canals as can be pre bent freely
