canal obturation Flashcards
which two materials are used to seal a root canal?
resin sealer - pasted onto the master cone of:
gutta-percha
what is the most common form of obturation and what are the equipment involved?
cold lateral compaction:
- gutta-percha equal to the size of the largest K file used
- finger spreaders
- resin sealer
what should be done before obturation to ensure the canal is in correct shape?
what follows this?
check the tug back of the master cone
insert the cone and pull to see if there is a tug back / resistance to pulling the cone
followed by EDTA removal of canal debris, then sodium hypochlorite and drying
what is the first step for gutta-percha obturation? how is obturation achieved after this?
insert master cone to working length along with finger spreader for lateral compaction
then accessory cones are placed until the canal is fully obturated
how is obturation achieved once gutta-percha is placed? where should it be placed to?
heat gun to cut gutta-percha where it leaves equal to CEJ.
coronal portion sealed with a restoration sealer or RMGIC followed by composite restoration
