Receptors and signalling Flashcards
1
Q
what does a receptor do?
A
transmission of a message from outside of a cell to its internal effects
2
Q
Ion channels
A
binding opens/closes channel to diffusive flow
can be voltage gated or ligand gated
eg neurotransmitters
3
Q
G Protein Coupled Receptors
A
Binding activates G proteins which start phosphorylation chains. G proteins are membrane proteins
4
Q
Kinase receptors
A
starts phosphorylation chains directly binding on outside results in activation on inside
5
Q
Antagonist action
A
binds but turns off signalling capacity –> blocks against binding and stops changing to natural state
6
Q
Agonist action
A
binds to provoke a signal from a receptor via a confrontational change.
