What is invisible support? (Bolger et al. 2000)
Supportive act may occur outside recipent awareness, OR the recipient may be aware, but may not code it as support.

Beneficial when diagnostic of problem severity and partners feel able to resolve issue
Harmful when disproportionate to problem severity and partners feel unable to resolve issue

Beneficial when successfully inducing guilt in partner reduces relationship insecurity
Harmful when partners avoid dependence, resent implied obligations, and resist change
