What is reactive arthritis?
A
Response to an infection in another part of the body

What are the common organisms involved in reactive arthritis?
A
Chlamydia
Neisseria
Sometimes GI pathogens: Salmonella, Campylobacter

How does reactive arthritis usually present?
A
Knee joint and other large joints become inflamed about 1-3 weeks following infection. This infection leads to an autoimmune arthropathy.

What is Reiter’s syndrome?
A
Combination of urethritis, uveitis and conjunctivitis

Treatment of reactive arthritis
A
IA or IM steroid injections
Treat underlying cause
Symptomatic relief
Occasionally DMARDs are required in chronic cases
