What is RAD?
Sudden onset of asthma-like sx following high level exposure gas, vapor or fumes
How long is the onset after exposure in patients with RAD?
Within 24 hours
What does RAD resemble?
Asthma
What are some house hold exposures that could cause RAD?
- Floor sealants
- spray paint
- bleaching agents
- house hold cleaners containing morpholine
What are some chemical exposures that could cause RAD?
Chlorine, sulphuric acid, ammonia, hydrochloric acid, acetic acid, phosgene,
hydrogen sulphide, sodium azide, sodium hypochlorite, toluene di-isocyanates, organic
solvents.
What are some industrial exposures that could cause RAD?
Paint spraying, metal-coat removers, welding, heated plastics or acids, epoxy
resins, perfumes, pesticides, enzymes, industrial cleaning products, dust or molds in
silos.
What are some miscellaneous exposures that could cause RAD?
Fire and smoke inhalation, burning paint fumes, tear gas, and locomotive exhaust.
What might a CXR find in RAD patients?
Non specific findings, inflammation/edema if severe
How do patients with RAD respond to beta 2 agonists?
Less responsive
How do you treat RAD?
Oral corticosteroids and bronchodilators within 3 months
