Reactions Of Metals Flashcards
What is the burning splint test?
A splint is lit and held near the opening of the tube, then the stopper is removed to expose the splint to the gas. The Hydrogen makes a pop sound when confronted with the splints.
What happens when you place a metal in acid?
Some metal react with acids to produce a salt and hydrogen gas.
With what are some metals reacting with?
Some metals react with acid and react with water.
How do group one metals react with water?
They all produce a metal hydroxide solution and hydrogen.
What is the equation of the reaction of a group 1 element metal and water?
Metal + water = metal hydroxide + hydrogen
Which are the element in group 1 which are the most reactive?
The elements in group 1 as the atomic number increases. When you go down group 1, the elemtns become more reactive.
Why are group 1 metals further down more reactive?
They are reactive because they outermost electron on the outermost shell is really far away from the nucleus and the electron is more easily lost and so the metals are more reactive.
