What are the three branches of Christianity ?
Catholic- Based in Rome and led by the Pope
Orthodox- split from Catholic in 1504 and practised in Eastern Europe
Protestant- Split from the Catholic denomination in 16th century and branched out into methodist, Baptist and united reform churches. They agree the bible is the only from of authority for Christians.
Give three beliefs that Christians believes about God.
- There is only one god ( “we believe in one God .” The Nicene Creed)
- God is the creator and the sustainer of all the exists
- God is a spirt neither male of female but a mix of both.
Give three qualities of God.
Omnipotent- God is all powerful
Benevolent - God is all loving
Just- God is fair with his judgment.
What are the three components of the holy trinity?
God the Father- the creator of all life and acts as a father to all his children. HE is omnipotent (powerful), omnibenevolent (all loving) and omniscient ( all knowing ).
God the son - became incarnate through Jesus who was both fully human while on earth and fully god at all times. Jesus is called the Son of God to show is special relationship to God.
God the Holy Spirt is the unseen power of God at work in the word who influences and sustains life on earth.
Name 4 Christian beliefs about Creation ?
- God created the world in 6 days and rested on the 7th
- God is the father who created and designed the earth and all life on it
- The holy spirt was active in the creation of the earth
- Christians believe that God continues to create new life today.
What do Christians believes about the incarnation of Jesus?
- Jesus is God in human form. He is the incarnation of God.
- He is the son of God and part of the trinity
- He is the Messiah
- Mary conceived him with out having sex
Name three beliefs about the crucifixion.
- Jesus was sentenced to death by Pontius Pilate, a death by crucifixion
-Jesus forgave those who crucified him and promised them a place in heaven with God - His Body was buried in a cave like tomb
The resurrection and ascension
- The gospels say that after Jesus died and was buried he rose from the dead. This is know as the resurrection.
- The ascension of Jesus took places 40 days after his resurrection, where he returned to God.
- There would be no Christian faith with out the reserection
Three beliefs about Life after death
-Jesus resurrection assure Christians that they will rise after death
-Christians have differing views about what happens when a person has died is resurrected
-belief in resurrection affects the way Christians live there life today
Three beliefs about the afterlife and judgment ?
- Christians believe in a afterlife
- The afterlife begins at the death or at the Day of Judgement when Jesus will come to judge the living and the dead
-Judgement will be based on how people have behaved during life times and there faith to god and Jesus.
Three beliefs on heaven and hell
- Gods judgment is final and you will be in eternal reward or damnation
-Heaven is the state or place of eternal happiness and peace in the presence of God
-Hell is the place of eternal suffering or state of being with out God
Three beliefs about sin and salvation
-Sin is any thought or action that separates humans from God
-Original sin is the inbuilt tendency to do wrong and disobey which Catholics believe all people all people are born with
- The ways Christians saved from sin to gain salvation by following gods law.
two beliefs about the role of Christ in salvation
- Christians believe that salvation is offered through the life and teachings of Jesus
- Jesus resurrection shows that God accepted Jesus sacrifice as an atonement restoring Gods and humanity that was broken when Adam and Eve sined
