What are the three branches of Christianity ?

A

Catholic- Based in Rome and led by the Pope
Orthodox- split from Catholic in 1504 and practised in Eastern Europe
Protestant- Split from the Catholic denomination in 16th century and branched out into methodist, Baptist and united reform churches. They agree the bible is the only from of authority for Christians.

Give three beliefs that Christians believes about God.

  • There is only one god ( “we believe in one God .” The Nicene Creed)
  • God is the creator and the sustainer of all the exists
  • God is a spirt neither male of female but a mix of both.

What are the three components of the holy trinity?

A

God the Father- the creator of all life and acts as a father to all his children. HE is omnipotent (powerful), omnibenevolent (all loving) and omniscient ( all knowing ).

God the son - became incarnate through Jesus who was both fully human while on earth and fully god at all times. Jesus is called the Son of God to show is special relationship to God.

God the Holy Spirt is the unseen power of God at work in the word who influences and sustains life on earth.

  • The gospels say that after Jesus died and was buried he rose from the dead. This is know as the resurrection.
  • The ascension of Jesus took places 40 days after his resurrection, where he returned to God.
  • There would be no Christian faith with out the reserection
