A

The driver of an authorized emergency vehicle may:
- Park or stand, irrespective of the provisions of this chapter

  • Proceed past a red or stop signal or stop sign, but only after slowing down as may be necessary for safe operation.

-Exceed the maximum speed limits so long as he or she does not endanger life or property.

-Disregard regulations governing direction of movement or turning in specified directions.

***The foregoing provisions shall not relieve the driver of an authorized emergency vehicle from the duty to drive with due regard for the safety of all persons

Non functional signal lights

  • Except when directed to proceed by a flagger, police officer, or firefighter, the driver of a vehicle approaching an intersection controlled by a traffic control signal that is temporarily without power on all approaches or is not displaying any green, red, or yellow indication to the approach the vehicle is on, shall consider the intersection to be an all-way stop. After stopping, the driver shall yield the right-of-way.

A

Approaching railroad crossings

  • Driver of such vehicle shall stop within fifty feet but not less than fifteen feet from the nearest rail of such railroad, and shall not proceed until the crossing can be made safely.

The foregoing requirements shall apply when:
- A clearly visible electric or mechanical signal device gives warning of the immediate approach of a railroad train or other on-track equipment.

  • A crossing gate is lowered or when a human flagger gives or continues to give a signal of the approach or passage of a railroad train or other on-track equipment.
  • An approaching railroad train or other on-track equipment is plainly visible and is in hazardous proximity to such crossing.
  • No person shall drive any vehicle through, around or under any crossing gate or barrier at a railroad

A

Automotive apparatus operational rules.

  • Daily operational check.
  • Any item found to be in need of repair must be reported immediately to the officer in charge or other appropriate person.
  • Firefighting apparatus must be brought to a full stop before employees are allowed to step from the apparatus.
  • Firefighters must not be in the apparatus hose bed while hose is being run out from the bed.
  • Headlights must be on at all times when any fire or emergency vehicle is responding to a call.
  • All apparatus over 20,000 pounds (gross vehicle weight) must utilize wheel chocks.
  • All operators of emergency vehicles must be trained in the operations of apparatus before they are designated as drivers of such apparatus.

  • Take into account potential blast zone, crew/ public safety, and hydrant location.
  • Complete evacuation of structure with leak. If entry is to be made, must wear full PPE including SCBA.
  • Deploy exposure line.
