alternative resolution of certain cases where a registrant has engaged in behaviour that could amount to serious professional misconduct / been convicted of an offence, but where it is not in the public interest for the matter to be referred to a hearing of the disciplinary committee

  • issue a warning to a VS / RVN to be published on the RCVS website for a period of time specified by the comittee
  • issue a confidential warning to a VS / RVN
  • refer cases back to the preliminary investigation committee

  • there is a formal hearing (similar to a court hearing)
  • hearing date offered within 12 months of the date the complaint was received.
  • appeals against a DC decision to suspend / remove RVN from register are heard by a senior barrister (Queen’s counsel)
