RAW DATA Flashcards
Raw data table
A table is a means of arranging raw data in rows and columns
Frequency table
A table displaying a record of how often an event occurred.
e.g Tally chart
Bar chart
Height of each bar represents frequency of each item.
Bar charts are especially suitable for data with no particular order.
Categorical or nominal data.
Histogram
Similar to bar chart, but is for continuous data, area within bars must be proportional to frequencies represented.
Vertical axis must start ay zero, horizontal axis must also be continuous. There should be NO GAPS between bars.
Line graph
Has continuous data on x axis, there is a dot to mark top of each bar, each dot is connected by a line.
Pie chart
Represent frequency data or any proportion.
Each slice represents the proportion/fraction of the total.
Size of each is calculated by working out proportion out of 360 (degrees in a circle).
For frequency of data, total is 50, for each slice we multiply frequency by 50/360 = degrees of the pie.
Scatter diagram
A graph to display correlation data. Two variables plotted with dots on a graph to show a correlation.
y axis usually represents
Frequency
x axis usually represents
Item of interest
