Q

How does the temperature affect the rate of reaction

A

Higher temperatures = higher rate
Move faster, therefore more collisions, therefore energy of collisions is higher.

Q

How does the concentation / pressure affect the rate of reaction

A

Higher concentration / pressure means more particles that are more likely to collide with each other

Q

How does smaller solid particles / more surface area affect the rate of reaction

A

Breaking it into smaller pices will increase its surface area to volume ratio, mroe of the solid will be exposed compared to its overall volume, frequency of collisions will increase

Q

What is a Catalyst?

A

Substance which increases the rate of reaction without being chemically changed or used up in the reaction

Q

How does a catalyst increase the rate of reaction

A

Decreases the activation energy needed for a reaction to occur, more of the particles have at least the minimum amount of energy needed for a reaction to occur when the particles collide.
