Rates Of Reaction Flashcards
1
Q
Describe the practical for the disappearing cross?
A
- Use a measuring cylinder to put 10cm^3 of sodium this sulfate solution into a conical flask
- Place the conical flask onto a printed white cross
- Add 10cm ^3 of hydrochloric acid into the conical flask
- Swirl the solution and start the stopwatch
- Look down at the conical flask
- After a certain amount of time the solution will begin to turn cloudy & then stop the stop watch when you can no longer see the cross
- Carry out the experiment again suing a lower concentration of sodium this sulfate solution
- Repeat the experiment & calculate mean values for each conc
2
Q
What is a negative of the disappearing cross experiment?
A
Ppl have different eyesights meaning some ppl can see the cross for longer
3
Q
Describe the gas collecting experiment?
A
- Use a measuring cylinder to place 50cm ^3 of hydrochloric acid into a conical flask
- Attach a bing and delivery tube
- Now place the delivery tube into a container filled with water
- Then place an upturned measuring cylinder also filled with water over the delivery tube
- Add 3cm strip of magnesium ti hydrochloric acid and start the stopwatch
- Reaction produces hydrogen gas which gets trapped in the measuring cylinder
- Measure the volume of gas every 10 seconds until no more is given off
- Repeat the experiment using a different conc of hydraulic acid
