rates of reaction Flashcards
define rates of reaction
how fast reactants turn into products
what do particals need in order to collide
energy
what is collision theory
the higher the amount of particals and energy, the more collisions therfore the reaction is bigger
why does temperature affect the rate of reaction
if the temperature is increased the reactant partiacals move quickly and more particals have the activation energy or greater this results in particals colliding more often and that results in greater reactions
why does concentration affect the rate of reaction
there are more reactant particals in the same volume so there is a greater chance of the particals colliding so the rate of reaction increases
what are the 4 things that affect the rate of reaction
temperature, concentration, catylist and surface area
why does surface area affect the rate of reaction
By decreasing the particle size of a reactant, there are more surfaces that collisions can take place on. The smaller the particle sizes the faster the reaction.
