catalyst and activation energy Flashcards
what do catalysts do
it provides an alternate reaction pathway with a lower activation energy. because the activation energy is lower, more particals have enough energy to react so the reaction is quicker and greater
why is iron a good catylyst
its cheap and doesn’t react, it doesn’t need to be repalced because it doesn’t get used up and it’s in small lumps because the surface area is increased
what is a catylyst
a chemical that takes part in a reaction but doesn’t get used up
what’s the most affective catalyst
copper
what is activation energy
the minimum amount of energy that must be provided for compounds to result in a chemical reaction.
why does surface area mean the reaction is affected
higher the surface area- more likely to collide
