Rate of Reaction Flashcards
1
Q
What factors affect rate of reaction?
A
Nature of reactants (bond type), surface area (more to collide with), concentrations (more particles to collide), temperature (increases collisions), presence of a catalyst (lowers Ea).
2
Q
Law of mass action
A
For a reaction aA + bB –> …, rate = k[A]^a[B]^b, where, k is the specific rate connstnat.
3
Q
How do you determine the order of reaction?
A
Add the exponents together
4
Q
How does rate of reaction change in a mechanism?
A
Since there are multiple steps, one of them must be slower than the rest, and is therefore the rate determining step. This helps in determining how increasing the concentrations of a reactant could help.
