Hashimoto thyroiditis is Hyper or Hypo? What is the HLA assx? What else is associated with this HLA?

HLA-DR5. Hashimoto thyroiditis and pernicious anemia.
Hypothyroidism. Low T4, High TSh

What is subacute granulomatous thyroiditis? (DeQuervain)
A
Postinfectious thyroiditis that is presents with a TENDER THYROID usually in a YOUNG WOMAN and generally SELF LIMITED (15% progress to hypothyroidism)

Thyroid feels like “hard wood”
A
Either anaplastic carcinoma or Reidel fibrosing thyroiditis.
Reidel patient will be younger, no malignant cells. Both present as hypothyroidism.

Decreased uptake of radioiodine aka “cold nodule”
A
adenoma and carcinoma. biopsy

Increased uptake of radioiodine aka “hot nodule”
A
Graves or nodular goiter
