What are the adverse effects of Zantac?
Headache, dizziness, constipation, & nausea. A rare adverse effect is abdominal pain.
What should the RPh tell the patient taking Ranitidine HCl?
- May be taken with food or milk if GI upset occurs
- Complete full course of therapy unless otherwise directed
- Do not freeze syrup
If dose is missed take ASAP. If almost time for the next dose, skip the next dose and return to normal dosing.
What are the drug interactions of Zantac?
May decrease Warfarin & lidocaine clearance.
May increase absorption of triazolam.
May decrease metabolism of nifedipine & tricyclic antidepressants.
What are the contraindications of Ranitidine HCl?
- Use with caution in patients with impaired renal or hepatic function.
- Dosage adjustments should be made in patients with impaired renal function.
- Reversible hepatitis has occurred during ranitidine therapy.
- Use caution in pregnancy & nursing.
- Pregnancy Category B
