Ethics
Its the study of what’s right and wrong
Right Behavior:
Includes what is legal and also what is allowed and not allowed according to codes of ethics and policies and procedures of that workplace.
Deontological:
whether the act itself is good.
Teleological:
whether the consequences of the act are good
Ethical Formalism:
the belief that there is a universal law that includes clear rights and clear wrongs.
Utilitarianism:
looks at how many people were helped by the act.
Religious Perspective:
what is right or wrong is based on one’s religion.
Natural Law:
what is good is what is known to be so.
Ethics of virtue:
emphasizes the virtue of one’s character over actions.
Ethics of care:
the care and concern of others is paramount.
Egoism:
the needs of the self are most important. Your needs above others.
Official deviance:
actions that benefit an organization, but violates the law or other formal rules.
Discretion:
The ability to make choices and to act or not act on them.
Subcultures:
A subset of a larger culture, with its own norms, values, beliefs, traditions and history.
The Harrison Narcotics Act
passed in 1914, was the United States’ first federal drug policy. The act restricted the manufacture and sale of marijuana, cocaine, heroin, and morphine. Strictly enforced, but mainly targeted physicians and pharmacists.
