Define Fetal Lie
Describes the relationship of the fetal long axis to that of the maternal long axis. (up and down)
Define Fetal Attitude.
The relationship of fetal body parts to one another.
What happens in a vertex presentation?
Baby’s chin is to his chest.
What happens in a sinciput presentation?
Chin is at 45 degrees.
What happens in a Brow Presentation?
Chin is at 90 degrees.
Define Descent
The progression of the fetal head into the pelvis
Define Flexion
This is when the fetal head meets resistance from the pelvic floor and walls as well as the cervix, causing the head to flex with the chin against the chest.
How can Vena Caval compression be fixed?
By upright positioning OR laying on the side.
What is a First Degree laceration of the birth canal?
Fourchette, perineal skin, vaginal mucous membrane
What is a Second Degree Laceration of the Birth Canal?
Fourchette, Perineal skin, vaginal mucous membrane, and fascia and muscles of the perineal body.
What is a Third Degree Laceration of the Birth Canal?
A second degree tear involving the anal sphincter
What is a Fourth Degree Laceration of the Birth Canal?
A third degree tear extending through the rectal mucosa to expose the lumen of the rectum.
