Define Active Phase and what should the dilation be in cm?
The second section of the first phase. Starts at 3-4 cm and ends at 8 cm of dilation.
Define amniotomy
The artificial rupture of membranes.
Define Braxton Hicks contractions
False labor. Painless and irregular contractions.
What is the Failure of labor to progress called?
Dystocia.
What is Effacement?
The shortening and thinning of the cervix.
What is the False Pelvis?
The shallow upper section of the pelvis.
What is Fetal attitude?
The relationship of fetal body parts to one another.
What is Fetal Lie?
The relationship of the fetal long axis to maternal long axis.
Define the First stage of labor
Begins with regular contractions and ends when the cervix is completely dilated.
Define Flexion
Occurs when fetal head meets resistance from the pelvic floor and walls as well as the cervix.
Define the Latent Phase
The first section of the first pahse. Begins with the onset of contractions.
What is oxytocin used for?
Onset and maintenance of labor.
What is the placental stage?
Third stage of labor.
What are primary powers?
involuntary pushing
What are secondary powers?
intentional pushing
