Random Ass Anatomy Flashcards

1
Q

what does the accessory nerve innervate and what will injury of it cause?

A

innervates traps, will cause drooping down of affected shoulder and patients wont be able to abduct their arm above shoulder level

Q

what does the dorsal scapular nerve innervate and what will injury of it cause?

A

rhomboids; trying to retract the scapula will cause it to upwardly rotate because rhomboids cant oppose traps

Q

what does the long thoracic nerve innervate and what does its injury cause?

A

serratus anterior; scapular bows out at medial border - winged scapula
also - you cannot abduct your arm above shoulder level

Q

what does the suprascapular nerve innervate and what would injury to it cause?

A

supraspinatus and infraspinatus; weak rotator cuff - impingement may occur, inability to begin abduction

Q

what does the axillary nerve innervate and what will its injury do?

A

deltoid and teres minor

loss of most shoulder functions (abduction, lateral rotation, f &e weakened)

Q

what is Erb’s palsy?

A

stretching/traction of upper trunk - consisting of C5 and C6
can happen in delivery; adult trauma
affects: deltoid, supraspinatous, infraspinatous, biceps brachii
can no longer: abduct, flex, supinate, laterally rotate arm
so arm is stuck in this position: extended, adducted at side, medially rotated, and pronated
