Rakta Dhatu Flashcards
Where is the agni of Rakta dhatu made?
Lining of endothelial cell of veins and arteries & spleen and liver sinuses and their enzymes
Rakta dhatu Kriya sarira (physiology)
- Rasa/Rakta dhatu coexist
- Sonu anu(RBCs)
- Sveta anu(WBCs)
- Chakrika(Platelets)
What is the nature/function of Sonu anu(RBCs)?
Globin–>Haem–>biliverdin–>bilirubin–>excreted into bile(happens in the liver)
What are the functional systems of Rakta dhatu through rakta vaha strotas?
Rakta(blood)
Pitta(bile)
Yakrut(liver)
Pliha(spleen)
How many Anjali’s in Rakta?
8 anjali’s
How many days does it take to make Rakta dhatu?
5 days
What are the 3 causes to blood loss per Manibhai Brahma Bhatt?
- Blood loss - bloody diarrhea, piles, purpura, hemoptysis, uterine bleeding, dysentery
- Destruction - immature productions by marrow, krumi(parasites), visha(poison), chemicals, toxins (mind/body), foreign blood cells
- Deficiency/Non-production - malnutrition, weak agni, poor absorption, bone marrow deficiency, diseases, metals, chemicals, over exposure x-rays, hereditary
What is the Etiology of Rakta Srotas disorders?
- Ahara(food) - sour, pungent, salty, hot, heavy
- Vihara(lifestyle) - extreme exposure to sun, fire, cold things, severe exercise, ETOH, tobacco
- Mansik(psychosomatic) - fear, anger, worry
- Krumi(worms) - microorganisms
What are the increasing pathology of Vata Rakta Dhatu thru Sarakta meda (bone marrow), Yakrut/Pliha (liver/spleen) and Lasika grandhi (lmphatic nodes)?
- Sarakta Meda(bone marrow) - emaciation, ruksha, decrease in quantity, erractic production
- Yakrut/Pliha(liver/spleen) - irregular function
- Lasika Grandhi(lymphatic nodes) - decrease size, fxn, decrease in immunity
What are the increasing pathology of Pitta Rakta Dhatu thru Sarakta meda (bone marrow), Yakrut/Pliha (liver/spleen) and Lasika grandhi (lmphatic nodes)?
- Sarakta Meda(bone marrow) - liquid, ulceration, pus, increased cell production
- Yakrut/Pliha(liver/spleen) - over functioning(pain, lethargic, swollen under eyes), inflammation, cirrhosis
- Lsika grandhi(lymphatic nodes) - inflammation, increased globlin, pus, abscess
What are the increasing pathology of Kapha Rakta Dhatu thru Sarakta meda (bone marrow), Yakrut/Pliha (liver/spleen) and Lasika grandhi (lmphatic nodes)?
- Sarakta Meda(bone marrow) - increased oiliness, solidification, white color, nodes, decrease productions
- Yakrut/Pliha(liver/spleen) - slow fxning, non-inflammatory enlargement
- Lasika Grandhi(lymphatic nodes) - increase in size, tumors
What are example of pathology with Increase(vrudhi) of Rakta dhatu through rakta vaha srotas?
- Red eyes and skin
- Hemorrhages
- Hematuria
- Ulcers in mouth, nose, rectum
- Spleen enlargement
- Bleeding tendancy, vagina
- Jaundice
- Gout
- Leprosy
- Mental confusion
- Darkness before eyes
- Dyspepsia(Indigestion)
What are example of pathology with Kshaya(decrease) pathology of Rakta dhatu through rakta vaha srotas?
- Rough skin
- Fissures and cracks
- Loss of luster
- Dryness
- Collapsed veins/arteries
- Desire for sour/cold food b/c of agni/manas habit, esp. in people with increased vata
What are characteristics of Prakruta(normal) rakta?
Red, fluid, unctuous, soft viscous, sluggish, warm, liquid, light, iron smell, slightly salty, clots within reasonable time
What are characteristics of Vikruta(abnormal) Vata rakta?
Bluish, liquid, dry, soft, non-sticky, quick flowing, warm, light, bad smell, astringent taste, slow to clot
