Radwaste (G11) Flashcards
What is the purpose of the Waste Collector Tank/System?
Collect, store & process HIGH PURITY (low conductivity) liquid waste by means of filtration and ion exchange for reuse as makeup water.
Equipment Drains
What is the purpose of the Floor Drain Collector Tank/System?
Collect, store, and process LOW PURITY (high conductivity) liquid wastes for reuse or discharge to the canal
Floor Drains
When discharging to the canal what additional requirements must be met whenever a monitor is inoperable?
2 independent samples of each tank to be discharged shall be analyzed
At least 2 technically qualified individuals shall verify the release rate calculations
At least 2 technically qualified individuals shall verify the discharge valving prior to the discharge
If the monitor remains inop for over 30 days, an explanation of the circumstances shall be included in the next semi-annual effluent release report
What is the required minimum dilution flowrate for all discharges?
What must be done if flow falls below this value?
10,000 gpm
Terminate discharge if below this value.
Only ONE restart of a specific discharge permit is permissible after a loss of dilution flow, and the restart must be accomplished within 6 hours of the time the discharge was suspended
At what temperature do instrument and drain sumps recirc?
At 140 F instrument and floor drain sumps recirc to prevent pumping steam to rad waste.
When must the discharge be stopped and discharge line be isolated?
The discharge must be stopped and the discharge line isolated upon occurrence of any of the following:
a. Rad Monitor Reading drops more than 5% below the background reading indicated on the Discharge Permit. MANUAL
b. Dilution flow decreases below 10,000 gpm. AUTO
c. Rad Monitor Reading exceeds the High Radiation trip setpoint. AUTO
d. Downscale/INOP trip is set at 3 cps. AUTO
NOTE: b, c or d above will auto close the Radwaste Canal Discharge Line Auto-Isolation valves 1/2G11-F184 and 1/2G11-F185
