Radiology of the Abdomen Flashcards
What is Fluoroscopy
Radiography with the addition of Barium or iodine DONE IN REAL TIME
What is the benefit of fluoroscopy
Will improve tissue contrast of the patients anatomy (usually gI tract)
What would be used to evaluate the pharynx esophagus and Gastroesophageal junction
Barium Swallow
What would be used for evaluation of the Pharynx, Esophagus, Gastro-Esophageal Junction, Stomach, and Duodenum
Upper GI Study
What would be used for evaluation of the Stomach, Duodenum, Jejunum, Ileum
Small Bowel Follow Thru
What would be used for evaluation from the pharynx to the terminal ileum
Upper GI study with Small Bowel Follow Thru
What would be used for evaluation of the Colon and Appendix?
Barium Enema
What are 4 ways to divide liver anatomy
Morphologial anatomy (surface
Functional (surgical anatomy)
Vascular supply
Biliary anatomy
What 3 things are taken into consideration in vascular supply division of the liver
hepatic arterial
portal venous
venous drainage
What are the mucosal fold patterns of the stomach and what is their orientation
Gastric Rugae
Long, Thick, Linear Folds Extending Along the Long Axis of the Stomach
What are the mucosal fold patterns of the small bowel and what is their orientation?
Valvulae Connivente (Plicae Circularis)
Thin, Circumferential Folds (<3mm). Extend Across Entire Lumen
Spaced Close Together (1 fold every 3-8mm)
Where is the highest concentration of mucosal folds in the small bowel?
Highest Concentration in Jejunum.
What are the mucosal fold patterns of the Colon and what is their orientation?
Haustral Folds
Thick, Transverse, Incomplete (non circumferential) Folds.
Spaced Further Apart than small bowel
What is the most accurate method of detecting solid visceral organ injury (for example from trauma)
CT
If Appendicitis is suspected, what does standard of care dictate
Imaging is required, take a CT
