Q

Pneumothorax.

A tension pneumothorax- emergent needle thoracostomy followed by thoracostomy tube placement and hospitalization.

Observation alone has been shown to be safe for small pneumothoraces in patients with minimal symptoms

Recurrence prevention is recommended after the Second episode of pneumothorax on the IPSILATERAL side in PSP and after the FIRST occurrence in SSP. Patients should be encouraged to stop smoking; the lifetime incidence rates for PSP are much higher in men who are lifelong heavy smokers.

Intervention to prevent recurrence includes both chemical and Mechanical Pleurodesis.

Air travel should be avoided until COMPLETE RESOLUTION of the pneumothorax

No Scuba diving unless Surgical Pleurectomy has been applied.
