Radio Waves Flashcards
What is Propagation?
describes the way electromagnetic waves moves
What is velocity?
How fast waves moves.
What is a cycle?
describes one complete occurrence of waves movement
What is wavelength?
distance covered by a point on the wave to that same point in the next cycle.
Decreases as energy increases.
What is a short wave?
A wavelength with a lot of energy that creates more cycles per second.
What is a long wave?
A wavelength with little energy that creates a few to little cycles per second.
What is frequency?
the number of cycles a wave completes in a second that is expressed in hertz.
ranges from 3 Hz to 300 billion Hz.
What is a media/medium?
what radio waves propagate or move through
What is the troposphere?
The atmospheric layer closest to the earth the resides 6- 10 miles from theEarth’s surface. This is where all the weather take place.
What is Stratosphere?
Atmospheric layer directly above the troposphere that resides 10-30 miles above the Earth.
It has a constant temperature.
What is the Ionosphere?
Atmosphere layer the resides 30- 250 miles above the Earth.
Is affected by the Sun during the day and lack of Sun at night. Divided into 3 layers.
What are the 3 layers of Ionosphere?
D layer, E layer, and F layer
What is the D layer?
30-55 miles that refracts with lower energy at lower height
What is the E layer?
55-90 miles that consist of charged ions greatly are affected by UV radiation during the day
