RADIO DIGESTIVE Flashcards
What is the peritoneum?
Serous membrane lining intra-abdominal organs composed of mesothelium & thin layer of CT
When and how is peritoneum seen in CT scans?
Only seen in pathologies
Appears as thick layer of fluid
What is ascites?
Accumulation of fluid inside peritoneal cavity in abdomen
Hinchazo extremo
What is hydronephrosis?
Swelling of COLLECTING DUCTS (not kidneys) due to urine accumulation
What is the mesentery?
Structure that anchors intestine to retroperitoneal structures (abdominal wall, aorta)
Contains vessels, nerves & lymphatics
What covers the mesentery?
Peritoneum
What is the mesocolon?
Special type of mesentery that divides peritoneal cavity into supramesocolic & inframesocolic
Where is the mesocolon found?
Right below the stomach
What are the divisions of the supramesocolic area?
Subphrenic areas (L&R)
Subhepatic area
Lesser peritoneal cavity
Perisplenic space (around spleen)
What are the divisions of the inframesocolic area?
Paracolic/goiters area (R&L)
Infracolic spaces (R&L)
Pelvis
What is the bare area?
Triangular area on diaphragmatic surface of liver attached to diaphragm by loose CT
Where is the bare area located?
Posterosuperior aspect of liver
What covers the bare area?
NOTHING! Not covered by peritoneum
What are the divisions of the stomach?
Fundus
Body
Antrum
Pylorus
Where does the stomach end?
In the pylorus (valve that connects stomach to duodenum)
Where is the duodenum found?
After pylorus
What are the divisions of the duodenum?
1 - bulb
2 - vertical
3 - horizontal
4 - ascending
Where does the ascending part of the duodenum end?
In the angle of Treitz
What is the angle of Treitz?
Junction btw. duodenum & jejunum adjacent to mesenteric vessels
EXAM QUESTION: Are the 2nd & 3rd divisions of the duodenum (vertical & horizontal) intraperitoneal? Why/Why not?
NOT intraperitoneal
Only their anterior face is covered by peritoneum
What covers the 1st & 4th (bulb & ascending) divisions of the duodenum?
Peritoneum
Where is the jejunum found?
Starts at angle of trietz
Extends from mesogastrium –> right iliac fossa
What types of folds can be found in the jejunum?
Transverse
Where is the ilium found?
From meso/hipogastrium –> right iliac fossa
