Radiation And Life P2 Flashcards
Light is one part of the…
Electromagnetic spectrum.
When can you only see things?
You can only see things when you absorb Electromagnet radiation would light.
Name the energy in which electromagnetic waves transfer?
Electromagnet waves transfer energy in packets called photons.
What do you electromagnetic waves depend on?
Electromagnetic waves depend on its intensity.
When are atoms or molecules ionised?
When they lose electrons.
Name three types of high ionising radiations?
Three types ultraviolet, x-rays and gamma rays.
What happens when cells absorb radiation?
Cells which absorbs radiation or damaged if they get too hot
Name a positive and negative about mobile phones?
Mobile phones are concerned with the health risks but they do help when you need to contact someone
What does ultraviolet radiation cause?
Ultraviolet radiation causes sunburn and skin cancer
What is the ozone layer?
I layer of ozone at the top of the atmosphere absorbs ultraviolet radiation from the sun. This protects living things on earth from some harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation. Is the ozone layer thins by 1% the risk of skin cancer increases by 4%. The ozone layer does however have some holes within it.
What is the greenhouse effect?
The greenhouse effect is when the earths radiation is absorbed or reflected back, this keeps the Earth warmer. The Earth warms from the Suns radiation.
What happens to the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere?
Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is found a very small amount. It is absorbed by plants through photosynthesis. It is then released by living organisms as they rot and respire.
What does increase of the temperature of the Earth correlate with?
It’s correlates with the carbon dioxide levels.
What is digital information stored as?
It is stored as bytes.
