What do vaccines do?
Vaccines contain a safe free form of a disease causing microorganism.
They produce immunity.
Are very safe, but not risk free.
What is the difference between open-label, blind and double blind?
Open-label: researcher and patient knows what they are having.
Blind: patient doesn’t know what they are having but the researcher does.
Double-blind: patient nor researcher knows what drug is being given.
What do Antimicrobials do?
They kill or inhabit the growth of bacteria, fungi and viruses.
What do white blood cells do?
White blood cells destroy microorganism by engulfing and digesting them.
They also produce antibodies against antigens on their surface .
In the hearts where does the left and right side lead to?
Left side: to the body.
Right side: to the lungs
What is heart disease caused by?
Heart disease is caused by poor diet, stress, smoking, misuse of drugs.
How is heart rate recorded?
Heart rate is recorded by measuring the pulse rate.
What reduces and increases ADH?
Alcohol reduces ADH.
Ecstasy increases ADH.
What are the nervous and hormonal systems like?
These control systems are automatic and they also have receptors, processing centres and effectors.
What does a balanced body water level maintain?
A balanced body water level maintains cell water concentration.
How do we lose water?
We lose water from sweating, breathing, faeces and urine.
What are the organisms that cause infectious diseases?
Organisms include bacteria and viruses.
