RADIACS Flashcards
What are the four rules of remembering RADIAC instruments?
- 4/10 RADIACS are Scintillating, one is the alpha contamination probe (DT-681/PDQ), the rest are Internal monitoring probes (all gamma, FASTSCAN, MCA, IM-253/PD with SPA-3).
- 4/10 RADIACS are Gas Filled Chamber (GFC) in the Geiger Mueller Region.
- IM-265/PDQ is for gamma radiation.
- Add the DT-680/PDQ, you get gamma and Beta radiation
- Use the DT-304/PDR (with the 265/PDQ or the 271/PDQ you change to CONTAMINATION and get gamma and beta. - The AN/PDR-70 or IM-216, is a neutron radiation detector that works as a GFC in the proportional region. Neutron radiation is the only use for this region.
- Finally is the IM-231, which is an ion channel gamma/beta radiation detector.
Name the Mode of Operation, the type of radiation detected, and the survey mode of the IM-231 detector.

Survey = Radiation
Name the Mode of Operation, the type of radiation detected, and the survey mode of the IM-216 (AN/PDR-70) detector.
Gas-Filled Chamber
Proportional Region
Neutrons (the only use of the prop region)
Survey = Radiation
Name the Mode of Operation, the type of radiation detected, and the survey mode of the FASTSCAN detector.
This is an Internal Monitoring Survey RADIAC.
All INT Monitors are scintillating and gamma radiation specific.
Name the Mode of Operation, the type of radiation detected, and the survey mode of the MCA detector.
This is an Internal Monitoring Survey RADIAC.
All INT Monitors are scintillating and gamma radiation specific.
Name the Mode of Operation, the type of radiation detected, and the survey mode of the IM-253/PD detector with the SPA-3 Probe.
This is an Internal Monitoring Survey RADIAC.
All INT Monitors are scintillating and gamma radiation specific.
Name the Mode of Operation, the type of radiation detected, and the survey mode of the IM-265/PDQ detector.
The base for the gas-filled chamber in the Geiger-Mueller Region, used for gamma.
Survey = Radiation.
Name the Mode of Operation, the type of radiation detected, and the survey mode of the IM-265/PDQ detector with the DT-680/PDQ probe.
Remember the 265/PDQ is GFC in GM, gamma radiation. This probe just adds Beta capability.
Name the Mode of Operation, the type of radiation detected, and the survey mode of the IM-265/PDQ detector with the DT-304/PDR probe.
Remember the 265/PDQ is GFC in GM, gamma radiation. This probe just adds Beta capability and has the protective surrounding that makes it a contamination probe.
Name the Mode of Operation, the type of radiation detected, and the survey mode of the IM-271/PDQ detector with the DT-304/PDR probe.
EXACT SAME as 265 with 304 because the 304 probe takes over; GFC in GM region, gamma and beta contamination.
Name the Mode of Operation, the type of radiation detected, and the survey mode of the IM-265/PDQ detector with the DT-681/PDQ probe.
The 681/PDQ probe completely changes the function to an alpha contamination survey with a scintillating mode (this is the only scintillating mode RADIAC that isn’t internal monitoring).
