What is race?
Race refers to differences in human physical characteristics that are used to
categorize people in a society.
What is ethnicity?
Cultural values, norms, language, or religion that distinguish the
members of one group from others.
What is the theory of racial formation?
The process by which social, economic, and political forces determine the content and importance of racial categories,
and by which they are in turn shaped by racial meanings.
What are minority groups?
A group of people in a society who, because of their distinct physical or cultural characteristics, find themselves in situations of inequality compared with the dominant group within that society.
What is a dominant group?
The group that possesses the most wealth, power, and prestige in a society.
What is prejudice?
The holding of preconceived ideas about an individual or group,
ideas that are resistant to change even in the face of new information.
What is racism?
The attribution of characteristics of superiority or inferiority to a
population sharing certain physically inherited characteristics.
What is discrimination?
Behavior that denies the members of a particular group resources or rewards that can be obtained by others.
