What is Gender socialization?
Gender Socialization is the learning of gender roles through agents of socialization, such as the family, schooling, and the media.
What is Patriarchy?
The dominance of and privilege afforded to men over women.
What is gender inequality?
The inequality between men and women in terms of wealth, income, and status.
What is Gender typing?
Women holding occupations of lower status and pay, such as secretarial and retail positions, and men holding jobs of higher status and pay, such as managerial and professional positions.
What is the “glass ceiling”?
A promotion barrier that prevents a woman’s upward mobility within an organization
What is sexual harrasment?
The making of unwanted sexual advances by one individual toward another, with which the first person persists even though
it is clear that the other party is resistant.
What is the motherhood penalty?
Mothers are also offered significantly lower starting pay for the same jobs
than equally qualified women without children
What is housework?
Unpaid work carried out in the home, usually by women, such as cooking, cleaning, and shopping.
What is the Second shift?
The excessive work hours borne by women relative to men; these hours are typically spent on housework before and after a day of work
outside the home.
