How does the virus enter the brain? and what part of brain does in localize in?
Enters CNS via peripheral nerves.
Localizes in the limbic region of the brain via retrograde transport.
When visible what are diagnostic?
Negri bodies.
How is Rabies transmitted?
Exposure of Mucous Membrane to Saliva of Animal.
NOT only by a bite.
Aerosol transmission documented in bat caves.
What test is performed to diagnose Rabies?
Direct fluorescent antibody test.
What is a Negri body?
Characteristic cytoplasmic inclusion body.
Post exposure prophylaxis procedure.
Administer BOTH HRIG and Vax for Naive patients.
1/2 HRIG in wound site, other 1/2 in gluteal region.
Vax in deltoid.

HSV-1 encephalitis is due to what?
Reactivation. And a ssevere sequelae is anticipated.
Neonatal infections tend to be due to WHAT?
HSV-2. Will have skin lesions, and conjunctivitis.
Focal encephalitis is limited to what regions of the brain?
Frontal and termporal regions.
What is the Treatment of HSV encephalitis?
Acyclovir
