Rabbit, Reptile & Bird Differences Flashcards
Describe differences in organs of the digestive system found in birds compared to the rabbit?
Describe differences in organs of the digestive system found in birds compared to the rabbit?
.Birds have two parts to their stomach the proventriculus and the gizzard. This is important as birds can’t chew their food because they do not have teeth, so they have a gizzard to ground up their food into smaller pieces.
.Rabbits only have one part to their stomach as they eat softer food than birds do and have teeth so they can chew their food meaning they do not have a gizzard like birds do.
.Most birds have a crop after the oesophagus for storing food and producing milk to feed their young. Rabbits do not have a crop like birds do so their food goes straight to the stomach from the oesophagus instead.
.The waste from the rabbit’s digestive system is excreted by the anus whereas the bird’s digestive system waste is excreted by the cloaca with urine in it.
Describe differences in the excretory systems of reptiles and birds compared to the rabbit?
Describe differences in the excretory systems of reptiles and birds compared to the rabbit?
.Reptiles and birds have a cloaca where they excrete urine and faeces through this one opening whereas Rabbits have separate openings for urine which is the urethra and the rectum for faeces. Birds and some reptiles like the snake do not have a urinary bladder but the rabbit does.
Why excretions of the bird and reptiles are different to those of the rabbit?
Why excretions of the bird and reptiles are different to those of the rabbit?
.Is because the bird and reptile have a cloaca and their urine and faeces come out together as droppings whereas the rabbit has separate openings for faeces the rectum and urine the urethra so the rabbit’s faeces would be hard as it is not covered in urine and the urine would not have faeces with it like the bird and reptile do.
