What is a fact?
- from a credible/ reliable source
- CANNOT have any sort of disagreement towards it
- it can be verified (ie. citations) , it is proven
- DOES NOT have authors feelings or opinions
if there are numbers in the passage, is it a fact or opinion?

What is an opinion? (including words that tip off that it’s an opinion)
- can have disagreement about topic
- contains authors viewpoint (FEELINGS and beliefs)
- ARE NOT true or false

What is a bias? (including example words that tip off that it is a bias)
- unfair, close minded/ inaccurate opinion for or against an idea, person, group of ppl or beliefs
- authors preferences
- easiest to pick out through first person POV

What is an example of bias?

What is a stereotype? (including examples and words that tip it is a stereotype)
- dropping normally complex ideas, events, groups of people into simple categories (a generalization of groups of genders, races, or ppl in general)
- look for LABELS of a GROUP of people
examples:
* asians are good at math
* women are not as good at science as men
* all tall people are good at basketball

- yes –> NO opinion words
- No –> YES opinion words are present
