R 1.2 Logical Conclusions/ Inferences Flashcards

1
Q

What is a logical conclusion? (include another name for it)

A
  • aka inference, which is an assumption to fill in the gaps
  • scan the passage and look for clues
  • it is supported directly by the text (MAIN IDEA + supporting details)
  • draw conclusions based on ALL EVIDENCE: your own knowledge and experiences as well as evidence from the passage: implicit evidence (implied BUT NOT directly stated in the text) and explicit evidence (stated directly in the text)
  • look for the best and most relevant conclusion that is supported by most specific evidence in the passage (doesnt have to be support of entire main idea)
  • always and never are NEVER the right answer; instead look for: likely, may, can, will often.
