Criterion-Referenced cut score
The cut score that corresponds to minimally acceptable performance
Norm-referenced cut score
Cut score that depends on distribution of scores
Behaviorally Anchored Rating Scale
Scale that anchors to describe what a worker is expected to do in a particular area & typically use critical incidents to specify behaviors
Compensatory system
Selection system where a good score on one test can compensate for a low score on another test
Hurdle System
Selection system w/ a noncompensatory strategy= candidate doesn’t have opportunity to compensate for a low score
Multiple Hurdle System
Selection system using multiple cut scores in a sequence= candidate def doesn’t have opportunity to compensate for low scores in the stages
Subgroup Norming
The use of different selection standards for different groups of people & it’s illegal bc of the Civil Rights act 1991
Score Banding
Grouping people based on similar scores (high vs. medium vs. low)
Halo Effect
Tendency to rate an employee the same on all dimensions bc of their “general impression”= attractiveness
Administrative Training
Form of training that offers simple explanation of rating procedures
Psychometric Training
Form of training that educates raters about common rating biases
Frame of Reference Training
Form of training= gives rater context for providing rating & multidimensional nature of performance + understanding the anchors on a scale
Base Rate
Proportion of individuals in the population that can perform the job at/above the acceptable level
Selection Ratio
Index ranging from 0-1= reflects the ratio of positions to applicants
Adverse Impact Ratio
Ratio found by the selection ratio of the protected group divided by the selection ratio of the majority group
