Acetaminophen (Tylenol)
One of the key ingredients in many prescription and non-prescription pain medications. If a patient has been taking multiple pain meds or has intentionally overdosed on them, an Acetaminophen level should be ordered. In some cases, pts can OD on Tylenol without realizing it. Tylenol can be very toxic to the liver, and in high doses can cause liver failure.

Digoxin/Lanoxin
The brand name for digitalis, this drug is an extract of the purple foxglove, and used by many cardiac patients. It is a powerful cardiac stimulant as well as a diuretic.

Dilantin
An anti-epileptic drug, useful in the treatment of epilepsy and other seizure disorders. Its primary site of action is the motor cortex where spread of seizure activity is inhibited. The appropriate lab for this drug is a Dilatin level.

Phenobarbital
A barbiturate that is commonly used as a hypnotic and sedative. It can be included in various medicines, and its commonly used in the treatment of seizure disorders. Because of its nature, it can be addictive.

Tegretol
An anticonvulsant and specific analgesic effective in the treatment of psychomotor and grand mal seizures, as well as trigeminal neuralgia. The appropriate lab for this drug is a Tegretol level. A CBC is also indicated due to the contraindications of this medicine, which include aplastc anemia, agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia, and leukopenia.
